Liverpool's Form: Better Than You Might Think
Liverpool's 0-0 draw with West Ham left quite a lot to be desired, and was greeted with the expected disdain online, and no doubt in and around Anfield too.
Whilst it was certainly a disappointing result, I was interested to see on statto.com that the Reds' form over the last five months has actually been very encouraging indeed.
Granted, a time frame of 'since November 1st' is very arbitrary, but whilst playing around with the 'custom table' option I noticed that Liverpool were in the leading pack for all of the key statistics, and as it covers over half a season it seems like a legitimate time frame.
I've highlighted in yellow where the Reds' numbers have been bettered, aside from the obvious points-per-game:
The key things to note:
Manchester City are the only side with more clean sheets, and one of just three sides to concede fewer goals than Liverpool;
Manchester United have failed to score less than the Reds and have a better goal difference, but none of the other eighteen Premier League sides can say the same;
No team has scored more goals than Liverpool during this period.
The interesting thing is, despite all the negatives being voiced today, Liverpool's six game form reached a season high with the point against West Ham, and their ten game form is at fourth place level (as you can see here).
Although Liverpool are far from the finished article right now, and the draw with the Hammers certainly displayed that, I do think the above figures display that the foundations are certainly being assembled for a crack at the top four next season.
