Another angle I’ve not seen, lovely work Chris..

Yeah so I spent a fair amount of the summer “debating” with people about how Trent will not only fit slots style but could absolutely flourish in a possession based style..

Not bad for barely any preseason and only two games in the system eh.

Can’t help but feel as the whole team gets more coordinated in their movements and able to draw the press and play through it, Trent will learn where the runners and space will be and be threading passes through to our forwards running wild all day long…

Re slot.. one big question was would he have that klopp like ability to understand why his system isn’t working as desired and make those halftime tweaks to suddenly make it all click and unleash the team.. it’s a damn good start!

It's always dangerous to draw correlation between assists and anything, but I'm going to in order to make a point ;-) Trent has hit double figures for league assists three times: 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2021/22. Is it pure coincidence that these were the Reds' best seasons, with the most functional midfields of the Klopp era? Not for me. It's not even about a 'possession based style', per se, but simply being part of a team with a more focussed and solid structure.

Bloody hell I called you chris. Apologies. No idea where that name came from in the depths of my mind.

Probably not the author chris Beasley and her seminal 1999 book “what is feminism” but that’s what I found on google. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I’d agree with that for sure.. though from memory his xAG in 22/23 was almost identical to 21/22…

Forwards scoring the sitters he puts on a plate really helps too!!! 😂

I do think his variety of passing has improved over the last year too. Very excited to see how he progresses.

I guess with the (slightly less) flying fullbacks back and providing balance, the question remains how slot will find that elusive 4th man in midfield.. Trent was roaming there anyways 🤷‍♂️

Exciting, enjoying what I’ve seen so far!

Yeah his creativity rate has been fairly consistent throughout. Like I said, don't try proving a point with assists!!

Felt sorry for Jarell but let's hope this ruthless side of Slot continues and we keep that wining feeling. After the first 10 games we will see how are season will progress.

I didn't think Quansah had done anything notable wrong, and certainly wasn't expecting him to go off at half time (beyond the talk on Twitter regarding Konaté warming up). A very interesting move from Slot.

Another brilliant breakdown, Beez, and the split between Konate and VvD in the second half is a great spot with Ipswich’s man marking stretched. Arguably making Ipswich commit to run down our back line will have hurt their fitness as they tired as we made the ball do the work. I ou has the ability to cover huge amounts of space as a defender, which isn't always an attribute caught in the data we see on the likes of fbref.

Your article back in May I highlighted defensive data on the opposition v Liverpool take ons aggregating as the highest in the league. In just the first game of the season, against a very pumped up opposition, Ipswich recorded 10 take ons of which 3 were successful. That's already better figures than all but one of the last 76 league games. Its just one game but Slot's teams want control including what the opposition do with the ball and how we react. It may not have the outcome of goals or chances but it certainly made our defenders work harder. If our new defensive shape means we work better at either stopping these dribbles or the pass before then that's not a bad thing.

I had forgotten about that but I guess it's a KPI for Slot to aim for - only allowing six or seven opposition dribbles per game, like City or Arsenal, rather than around 11. There's that number again ;-)

Only six dribbles completed by Brentford on Sunday, and from 24 attempts too....

The stat for touches in the box puts a number to the feeling that we were so much more dangerous on Saturday than in the previous two seasons. There are more players in the box to make the final pass to. Thanks for the write-up. I will be watching for how wide our CBs are set up. I love the fact that Slot can make meaningful changes and is not precious about his initial setup.

Yes, the total of 46 touches in the opposition box has only been bettered by Liverpool eight times in away games in the last seven years:

As per Liverpool’s away kit, none more black. Always good to sneak in a Tap reference, Beez.

On my Bowie's 11th birthday I said to her "You're literally turned up to 11." She replied, "One louder." I was overjoyed even if I don't think she knows the context of the gag.
