Hello, good evening, and welcome. Thanks for subscribing. Named after a spin-off project from the excellent Field Music, here’s a round up of what I’ve been up to over the last week. I can’t promise I’ll do this every week, but I certainly will if Twitter sinks into the Musk mud.
Liverpool Echo and Liverpool.com
Darwin Nunez was mystifyingly compared to Iago Aspas and El Hadji Diouf after Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Tottenham. That needed debunking, so I did so here.
Ibrahima Konaté was assessed more fairly after the match, so I took a look at how his presence can help the Reds’ midfield.
Ben Doak made his Liverpool debut this week but before he did I took a look at his form in the UEFA Youth League. The young Scot has four goals and four assists this season, and not too many others have matched both in a single campaign in that competition.
Doak’s first appearance occurred against Derby in the Carabao Cup. As much as Caoimhin Kelleher was the hero, his abilities stretch far past saving penalties, as this will demonstrate.
Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino have been in good form at different times. The latter has been the better finisher, but who should Jurgen Klopp play up front? In a similar vein, Firmino was excluded from the Brazil squad for the World Cup, and his number might explain why.
This one is a preview of sorts for Southampton, so is out of date from that perspective. But it’s also a look at how circumstances ensure the fixture list is never fair. Has new opposition manager bounce afflicted Liverpool? You can find out there.
Transfers
You can’t write with stats and not assess the odd rumoured player or two each week.
One of the rumours I started myself. Well, not exactly, but Florian Neuhaus has been linked to Liverpool in the past and I made the case he can replace both Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
I also looked at Gustav Isaksen and Seko Fofana. Are Liverpool interested? They’re good players, Brent.
Feedback loop
To launch this newsletter, I took a brief look at the Round of 16 ties in the Champions League from the viewpoint of the stats in the Group Stage.
Betting Previews
These certainly aren’t to everyone’s taste and will often be out of date by the time I get round to compiling the links, hence why they’re bottom of the pile. If you are interested, here are my author pages at Paddy Power and Vegas Insider. I’m going to be predicting the score line for all 64 matches at the World Cup for the latter; wish me luck, I’ll need it.
Have a good week, friends.
